چکیده

Cyclic-tension fatigue of aluminum alloy, Al-4Cu-1Mg, was determined by an analysis of diffracted SH and SV waves, passing through the surface and reflecting the bottom of the specimen, respectively. The internal friction of SV waves begins to increase from fatigue damage ratio(=N/Nf) of 0.5. This suggests increase of movable dislocation. From the analysis of SH waves, the logarithmic damping ratio and the propagation time decreases with increasing of the degree of fatigue. Assumed from SH wave flux model, the residual stress field applied by cyclic-tension makes the damping ratio and the propagation time decrease. The experimental result correlates well with this theory. These results show that ultrasonic method is useful probe for evaluation of fatigue in aluminum alloy. Ultrasonic Evaluation of Adhesive Bond Strength Using Spectroscopic Techniques

In this program statistical analysis of ultrasonically determined parameters was used to identify the features of acoustic wave propagation in adhesively bonded structures which could be used to determine adhesive bond strength. The parameters associated with the interaction of ultrasonic waves with the adhesive-aluminum interfaces and adhesive interlayer which were investigated included bondli...

Residual Stress Behavior of Rolled Aluminum Alloy A2024T3 in a Thin Plate During Cyclic-Tension Fatigue Studied Using Ultrasonic Horizontally Polarized Shear Waves

The cyclic-tension fatigue in a rolled thin-plate of aluminum alloy Al–4Cu–1Mg was evaluated nondestructively using a horizontally polarized shear wave (SH) transmission method under optimized measuring and analyzing conditions. The propagation time of the SH waves, which contained elements of reflected waves, had three distinct stages, the first, middle and final ones, during the fatigue proce...

Ultrasonic Sensing of Solid-Liquid Interface during Directional Solidification of Aluminum

This paper presents a newly developed high temperature ultrasonic sensor and its application to in situ observation of aluminum (Al) alloy during solidification and melting in temperature up to 800C. The ultrasonic sensor mainly consists of a conventional piezoelectric transducer, a titanium buffer rod as an acoustic waveguide and an air cooling pipe. The length is approximately 300 mm. This ul...

Ultrasonic Shear Wave Anti-Icing System for Helicopter Rotor Blades

A new conceptual non-thermal anti-icing system for helicopter rotor blades is introduced. Theoretical calculations predict that certain ultrasonic modes generated by horizontal shear waves produce sufficient interface stresses between a host structure and ice to remove the accreted ice layer. Experimentally obtained ultrasonic shear dispersion curves are compared to theoretical predictions for ...

Testing Application of Scanning Acoustic Microscope for Adhesive Characteristics of Explosive-Aluminum-Alloy Interface

The working principle of scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) is introduced, and the acoustic transmission action is analyzed according to the geometrical and structural characteristics of explosive/Aluminum-alloy binding. The adhesive status of the interface in some typical parts of the binding is detected by SAM and 30MHz ultrasonic focal field lens. The results show that the interfaces between...
